Lift the ban on kayaking to Halong cruises

(News) At mid-April 2017, a written request for lifting the ban on kayaking in Halong Bay was given by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In addition to backlashes from travel companies, a miracle has just come to those who are going to visit Halong Bay.

On 26 April, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Duc Long held an urgent meeting to consider conditions for Halong cruises to continue providing kayak services and to have timely direction for operating water sports and activities in Halong Bay. Accordingly, kayaking activities will be re-activated from the first of May, 2017 based on 05 permitted routes and 08 exact spots, namely:
  • For both kayaking and rowing boats: Ba Hang, Hang Luon, Vung Tung Sau, Cua Van and Vong Vieng
  • For kayaking only: Ho Dong Tien, Trinh Nu Cave, Cong Do and Hang Co

Other than lifting the ban on kayaking to Halong cruises, rowing boat services are officially added in Halong’s tourism products, following the Halong government’s proposed plans. To lift kayak ban, all of Halong cruises and organizations have to assure safe conditions, to register with the business registrar and to book an engagement with the Halong management board.

Previously, An Insider of Vietnam shared the news about Termination of kayak activities in Halong that was just issued on 27 March 2017 by the Halong city. From my point of view, Halong Bay still remains unique and wonderful, whether it has kayak activities or not. It should not have any over-reactions for these short-term decisions.
