Vietnam's National Highway No. 18 is the most vital route connecting Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport) to Mong Cai town on the Chinese – Vietnamese frontier. This crucial highway for exchanging economy and culture both in Vietnam and China was disrupted by the Halong Bay’s strait in the past. This was why people had to rely on ferries to cross the strait, but economic development made it overload.

Together with Halong Bay become UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Bai Chay Bridge is built to meet the transportation capacity. It has recently attracted significant visitors going there to observe the grand construction. It is worth mentioning that there have been both foreigners and locals including the Vietnam’s Prime Minister to visit this bridge.

Building the Bai Chay Bridge, it was the transfer of Japanese construction technology to Vietnam. This bridge is expected to improve traffic conditions on National Highway No. 18 as well as freight and passenger traffic in the region hopefully to flow more smoothly.

The work was completed and opened to traffic in 2006. It took the record of longest central-line span of cable-stayed bridge at that time. Bai Chay Bridge has been put into operation to meet the demand of Quang Ninh people, tourists inside and outside Vietnam and to end decades of the Bai Chay ferry’s operation.

Riding on this bridge at night, it is absolutely a unique experience when you visit Halong Bay. How fabulous it is when you get a bird’s eye view of Halong Bay at night from the bridge with a windy ambiance and full of bright light.

Personally, not only does this bridge improve traffic condition in northern Vietnam, but it also takes a vital place in the heart of Vietnamese people by becoming a great landmark on Ha Long Bay and the national tourism resource.
